Once the table frame has been erected and the slates in place the Technician turns to his trusted level. If you get the opportunity ask the Technician to place a £5 note under one end and what the bubble. In your amazement be sure to retrieve your £5

Final adjustments to levelling takes place using a bottle jack

One leg will be identified as the 'bearing' leg that all the others are referenced too

Glue is applied to adhere the cushion rubbers
As the glue starts to set the Cushion Rubbers are fitted
Using a template and expert hand/eye coordination the cushion rubbers are trimmed to give the desired pocket size
Great skill is used when trimming the cushion rubber undercut to give the desired pocket acceptance size. Bear in mind this has to be the same for all pockets!
A hardwood strip is used to tighten and hold the cloth in place to the desired tension. Again experience is called upon to achieve the correct tension
The cushion are then dressed with bed cloth which is stapled.
The bed cloth is then laid out and checked before stretching takes place. First lengthways and then sideways
With the cloth secured by tacks Pete prepares himself for further stretching of the cloth. Notice the beads of sweat on his brow!
Working away from the initial anchor points towards the corner pockets the cloth is stretched. This takes considerable strength to ensure the cloth is as tight as possible. One sharp edge on the slate, a flaw in the cloth or just a little too much pulling can cause the cloth to rip. Fancy having a go?!!
With the cloth fitted to perfection, not a crease to be seen, brushing takes place.
Next the cushions are bolted to the table...
...and then the cushion freeze is added to cover the steel blocks.
Every set of steels are stamped with a unique patent and identity code.
Under the watchful eye of an expert Pete sets up his guides to mark the lines and spots.
Screws are used as targets to get a true line...if it looks right it is right!
Job done!
