WATSON STRETCHES THE PACK

24th February 2008
Daniel Watson jump into top spot in the West of England Billiards & Snooker Falmouth Bronze Waistcoat rankings with a fine 2-0 win over Adam Lawson in the final. After just two events Watson has opened up a 420 point lead over joint second place players Steven Hull and Phil Morgan. Watson’s victory came after a consistent days play without dropping a frame. In the semi final Watson beat Charlie Martin and Lawson did well to win a tough match against Jack Pledger. The quarter finals saw close black ball finishes for Pledger who narrowly beat newcomer Jack Franklin and Lawson who just pipped Phil Morgan. Watson beat Steven Hull comfortably as did Martin beat another newcomer Daniel Richards.

Morgan won group A after a shaky start in his first match where he only just beat George Leakey on the black. Pledger qualified in second place easing out Leakey who had no less than four black ball finishes. James Eddy, Jack Vivian & Callum Archer all failed to qualify this time. Franklin proved the surprise in group B by wining the group ahead of Martin on head to head count back. James Taylor, Harry Pledger, Josh Byrd & Aimee Andrewartha made up the group. Watson made a 22 break in winning group C with some good victories. Hull picked up the second qualifying spot only losing the one match against Watson. Zak Lawson, John Campbell & Louis Bamford failed to qualify. In the final group D, Daniel Richards ploughed through the field to win at a canter after a close first match against Emmit Moosa. Lawson equally impressive took second spot losing just one match to Richards. Charlie Campbell, Tamara Williams, Jack Stephens & Emmit Moosa will have to wait until the next event before having another try at qualifying.

Club Proprietor and Tournament Director Paul Williams said "After just two events Daniel Watson is showing good form and has established a small lead in the rankings. The following pack are closely bunched together and with eight places to compete for to reach the regional finals in May, the competition is beginning to heat up."
