Michael was born in Darley Dale, Derbyshire and moved to Devon in 1952 when he was 7 years old. He obtain his Class C award for both Billiards & Snooker in November 1970, he upgraded to Class B in 1972 and became a Class A Referee and Official Examiner in November 1976. In 2007 Michael aspired to Devon & Cornwall Area Tutor/Examiner.

Michael has a long list of prestigious tournaments, matches & Exhibitions which he been invited to at the request of the all of the governing bodies, BS&CC, EASB, EABA, EBSA, IBSF & World Snooker. If you thought being a referee was in any way boring or unadventurous think again! Michael has been called to all corners of the UK along with visits to a number of countries around the world. We in the West country feel extremely fortunate to have Michael officiate at our County and Local tournaments. The best compliment I can make is that you really don't know he's been in the Billiard room let alone refereed your match. listed here is some of the tournaments he has refereed, Michael offered to include County and local league matches but we just don't have enough space! In his spare time Michael is treasurer for Devon County Billiards & Snooker Association and is actively involved with his local Skittles league.
